Pokemon Pokopia Underwater Farming: How to Grow Crops with Bubbles

Underwater farming lets you grow crops on the Bubbly Basin seafloor instead of relying only on land fields. The loop is simple, but the condition is different from ordinary farming: after making a field and planting seeds, the crop needs bubbles. A Pokemon with the Water specialty can provide them, and a powered Bubble Machine is the convenient alternative for a permanent underwater plot.

Underwater Farming Requirements

How to Grow Crops Underwater

1. Dive to a clear section of the seafloor in Bubbly Basin.
2. Use Cultivate on the ground to make a field.
3. Plant the seeds you want to grow.
4. Ask a nearby Pokemon with the Water specialty to apply bubbles to the planted field.
5. Wait for the crop to mature, then harvest it normally.

The important part is step four. Planting seeds alone does not finish the underwater farming loop. The bubbles are the care action that lets the planted crop grow. Place the helper close to the field so the plot is easy to maintain rather than scattering seeds across a large part of the seabed.

Use a Bubble Machine for a Permanent Plot

The Bubble Machine is a DLC utility item that emits bubbles when it receives power. Put it next to muddy ground or underwater crops to make a small farm easier to manage. It is a good choice for a plot you expect to revisit, such as a Watermelon field beside the Bubbly Basin town.

The machine still needs electricity. Plan its position before filling the area with crops and decoration, then connect it to a suitable power source. This avoids having to rebuild the field just to run power into the middle of it. The Bubble Machine is found in Bubbly Basin and can also appear on an underwater Dream Island.

A Water-specialty Pokemon is the lower-setup option. It works well while testing a crop or while you are still progressing through the DLC. A Bubble Machine is more practical for repeatable farming because it keeps the bubble source at the field instead of depending on where a helper happens to be placed.

Practical Layout Tips

Keep the farm compact at first. Make a field, plant one crop type, and place the bubble source along the edge where it will remain reachable. Leave a clear route for harvesting and for moving around while diving. Once the growing loop works, expand the field in sections instead of placing a large number of seeds before confirming that all of them can receive bubbles.

Watermelon is a useful first crop because it connects directly to the Smoothie chain. Grow Watermelon, have a Pokemon with the Cut Trees specialty process it into Cut Watermelon, then use it in the Mixer. The resulting Smoothies enable Surf while Diving, so a nearby underwater farm can shorten preparation for long cave routes.

Common Problems

The seeds are planted but the crop is not growing

Check that the field is receiving bubbles. Move a Water-specialty Pokemon closer, or use a powered Bubble Machine beside the crop. The planted field needs that underwater care step after the seeds go in.

I cannot make a field on the seafloor

Use Cultivate on suitable ground, not on an occupied tile. If you have not unlocked Cultivate, complete Drilbur's request before returning to the underwater area.

Should I build a huge underwater farm immediately?

No. Start with a small plot and a reachable bubble source. A permanent powered machine is worth adding once you know the crop route you want to repeat.
