Complete Cloud Island guide for Pokémon Pokopia. How to unlock, create, and join islands, Virtual Mode, Cloud Shop recipes, and multiplayer tips.
Author: Pokopia Guide Team
Cloud Islands are Pokémon Pokopia's online multiplayer feature — separate worlds where up to 4 players can build, explore, and play together. Unlike your main island, Cloud Islands start from scratch with a randomly generated layout, their own inventory, and a unique shop. This guide covers everything you need to know.
How to Unlock Cloud Islands
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Environment Level | Reach Level 2 in the main game |
| Access Point | PC at any Pokémon Center → Link Play |
| Online Membership | Nintendo Switch Online subscription required |
| Internet | Stable internet connection |
You'll need roughly 30 minutes of gameplay to reach Environment Level 2 and rebuild the Pokémon Center.
Creating a Cloud Island
- Go to a Pokémon Center and interact with the PC
- Select Link Play → Play on a Cloud Island → Create a new Cloud Island
- Choose terrain generation:
- Random generation — creates a random layout
- Magic number — enter a 9-digit seed for a specific terrain
- Name your island and configure settings
Cloud Island Settings
| Setting | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Share with Others | Allow any player to join and play freely |
| Enable Virtual Mode | Other players' actions won't be saved |
| Set Link Code | Require a code to join (recommended) |
| Display / Change Link Code | Manage your Link Code |
| Allow Link Code Saving | Let visitors save the code for easy re-entry |
Important: You can only host one Cloud Island at a time. Delete your current island in Settings before creating a new one.
Joining a Cloud Island
To join someone else's island, you need their Cloud Island address. Enter it through Link Play → Visit a Cloud Island. You can enter even if the host is offline — the island is persistent.
What Transfers Between Main Game & Cloud Island
| Transfers | Does NOT Transfer |
|---|---|
| Life Coins (shared currency) | Items / Inventory |
| Learned recipes (permanent) | Facilities / Buildings |
| Pokémon Traces | Environment Level |
| Pokédex "fully discovered" status | |
| Habitats |
Key tip: Recipes you learn on Cloud Islands are permanently kept in your main game. This is the most valuable thing to bring back. Note that Cloud Islands have their own separate Pokédex — Pokémon discovered there don't count as fully discovered in your main game.
What You Can Do on Cloud Islands
Build Together
Cloud Islands have all biome resources from every area in the main game. You and your friends can gather materials and build collaboratively from a blank slate.
Cloud Shop
The Cloud Island PC has a unique shop with items not available in the main game's shop. Prioritize buying recipes here — they're the only items that permanently transfer back.
Pokémon Companions
Pokémon you've befriended in the main game may ask to accompany you to a Cloud Island. Accept and they'll follow you around, providing their Specialties (Chop, Mine, Search, etc.) for more efficient resource gathering.
Mini-Games
- Jump Rope — multiplayer coordination game
- Hide-and-Seek — play with friends and Pokémon
Photo Mode
Decorate the island, pose with friends and Pokémon, and take group photos.
Virtual Mode (Read-Only Visits)
Virtual Mode lets you tour other players' islands without affecting them — perfect for sightseeing impressive builds.

Tips & Best Practices
- Buy all Cloud Shop recipes first — they permanently transfer and expand your main game options
- Back up before inviting strangers — guests can modify your island unless Virtual Mode is enabled
- Use Link Codes — protect your island from unwanted visitors
- Bring Pokémon with useful Specialties — Chop, Mine, and Search make resource gathering much faster
- All biomes in one place — Cloud Islands have resources from every area, making them great for farming materials you haven't unlocked yet in the main game
- Life Coins are shared — spending on Cloud Islands reduces your main game balance too
