Author: Pokopia Guide Team
Pokémon Pokopia is the first slow-life sandbox game in the Pokémon series, co-developed by GAME FREAK and Koei Tecmo. It launches worldwide on March 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
The Story
In the world of Pokopia, Pokémon and humans once lived happily together, but the land has since withered and fallen into ruin. A Ditto awakens from a long slumber and decides to use its transformation abilities to restore the desolate land, turning it back into a paradise for Pokémon.
You play as this Ditto — disguised in human form — working alongside Pokémon friends to rebuild a thriving town from scratch.
Core Gameplay
Crafting & Building
At its heart, Pokopia is all about gathering, crafting, and building. You can:
- Collect materials and resources from the environment
- Craft furniture, decorations, and structures
- Grow vegetables and tend to crops
- Design and decorate your home and town
Ditto's Transformation Abilities
As a Ditto, you have a unique mimicry ability. By copying the skills of wild Pokémon, you can use those borrowed powers to reshape the environment and unlock new areas. Befriending Pokémon teaches you new moves, opening up even more possibilities for building and exploration.
Cooking System
Under the guidance of Chef Dente — a culinary Greedent who wears a large pot on his head — you can learn a variety of recipes. Gather ingredients, cook meals, and treat your Pokémon companions to delicious food.
Music System
DJ Rotom is a Rotom that has taken the form of a portable boombox. Feed it CDs to unlock classic Pokémon BGM tracks, including the Pallet Town theme from Red & Blue, Fortree City from Ruby & Sapphire, and The Academy from Scarlet & Violet.
Unique Characters
The world of Pokopia is home to many unique NPC Pokémon:
- Professor Tangrowth — A lab-coat-wearing Tangrowth who guides you through the basics of building and exploration
- Peakychu — A pale Pikachu with droopy ears that has lost its electric spark
- Mosslax — A moss-covered Snorlax that has been sleeping on the island for ages
- Smearguru — A colorful Smeargle who serves as the island's resident artist
- Chef Dente — A Greedent with a pot on its head, specializing in cooking
- DJ Rotom — A boombox Rotom in charge of the island's music

Multiplayer
Pokopia supports 1–4 player co-op, both online and via local wireless:
- Invite friends to visit your island and build together
- Play mini-games like hide-and-seek (Ditto can transform into objects!)
- Use the GameShare feature to let friends without the game join as guests
Cloud Island
One of Pokopia's most unique multiplayer features:
- Create a shared island stored in the cloud
- Other players can join and build even when the island owner is offline
- Up to 4 players can be online simultaneously, but the total number of participants is unlimited
- Think of it like a Minecraft server — your friends keep building while you're away, and you'll see their progress when you log back in
Cloud Island requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
