Black paint: berries, shop unlock and unlimited stock
- Give Aspear Berry / Pecha Berry / Rawst Berry to a Pokémon with Crush. Black paint is a rare extra; a batch can produce only the berry’s main color.
- At Palette Town Environment Level 5, paint enters the shop with limited stock. Level 10 unlocks unlimited black and white paint. Level 5 does not mean unlimited purchases.
- If only the limited listing is visible at Level 10, buy out its remaining stock and check the shop again. For a guaranteed supply, use the unlocked shop rather than assuming every batch of berries will give black paint.
Where to get Rawst Berries for paint
Harvest them from trees, grow a tree from seed, trade with Pokémon, or photograph a tree in another player’s town to copy it. Give the berries to a Crush Pokémon for cyan paint; black paint is a rare bonus, not a guaranteed result.
Overview of the Painting System
In Pokopia, there is a "Painting" system that allows you to freely customize the colors of furniture and buildings. There are two main ways to change colors:
- Request Smearguru — Take furniture to Smearguru to have the colors or patterns changed.
- Use Coloring Balloons — Throw crafted balloons at furniture or buildings to change their color.
Painting Unlock Conditions
The painting system is unlocked upon reaching Bleak Beach. It becomes available by talking to Smearguru, the resident artist Smeargle located on the south side of the town.
How to Obtain Paint
Method 1: Crushing Berries (Crush Skill)
If you give Berries to a Pokémon skilled in "Crush," they will process them into paint. The color varies depending on the type of Berry.

How to Use Coloring Balloons
By crafting Coloring Balloons, you can paint furniture and buildings directly without needing to go through Smearguru. Simply equip the balloon and throw it at your target to change its color.

In addition to solid colors, there are items that patterns can be applied to.

Painting Tips
- White and Black are rare — Since you need to crush a large amount of Berries, keep crushing and stocking up on any extra basic-colored Berries.
- Multi-part support — Some furniture allows you to change the colors of two different parts individually. Enjoy experimenting with combinations!
- Over 200 compatible items — A wide range of items are supported, including furniture, kitchenware, decorations, walls, floors, roofs, and fences.
- Patterns consume more paint — Applying a pattern requires 1 to 3 units of paint.
